Sunday, Jan 2.
So far, 2011 rocks.
On New Year’s Eve we saw Fat Freddy’s Drop, a seven-piece band from Wellington.
Their musical style is a mixture of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and techno.
They’re my favourite band in the world, and completely lived up to our excitement.
A quick summary of the evening: we made a friend who was sporting a bleached rattail, I was repeatedly hit on by a blonde girl, and Matt peed in a cup (and on my feet) so we didn’t lose our front row seats.
Overall, I would say the night was a success.
The next morning we caught a ferry from Picton to Wellington. It was a rough one, but we made it in one piece.
Our new campsite looks like a summer camp for delinquent children, whose parents really wanted them to suffer.
It’s also positioned above a complex of big-box stores.
So in the foreground of our wonderful Wellington harbour view, there’s a Denny’s, K-Mart and McDonald’s.
On the plus side, we’ve scored two days of free showers and free electricity.
I can tell 2011 is going to be a good year.
